This is a powerful image and its content and style should not be judged without understanding the importance of context which a series of pictures can not do justice. This prison is in a downtown core with several series of cameras on every approach and a security booth directly across from the piece (how they did that without them seeing is amazing).
This may have been planed or spontaneous and what the artists actual intention was I am not sure. However such bold actions on such a stark tableau makes the words have a more profound meaning (and source of inspiration) for me as an act of resistance against the prison system which is used against street and graffiti artists in numerous ways. I encourage you all to learn more about prison justice and keep in mind that all the people who bring you the great art you see on this site face the threat of prisons to make that art happen.
